CannaTech and Sandton Cannabis Expo 2019
During the month of November 2019, the PharmOut team attended the CannaTech Conference in Cape Town, South Africa for 2 days to learn more about the South African Medicinal Cannabis market. Following on from that, the team headed up to the Sandton Cannabis Expo in Johannesburg, South Africa for 4 days. What we found was that the two events were markedly different experiences but both very successful events.
The CannaTech event is widely recognized as one of the industries premier cannabis experience for education and networking. They have been highly active in emerging markets around the world. What we found was that the attendees and the sponsors gather together to drive the cannabis industry’s growth. PharmOut was privileged to be part of this important event as a participant and sponsor. CannaTech Cape Town, South Africa is the only event of its kind in Africa with a truly global focus that offers senior industry leaders, medical and scientific experts, and new ventures the platform to come together, drive innovation, form partnerships and promote knowledge exchange.
Following on from the successful cannabis expo events in Pretoria, Cape Town and in Durban, the Sandton Cannabis expo was another highly successful event and it was a little different from the CannaTech event. The Johannesburg Expo was a much larger, with many more attendees over the 4 days with over 200 exhibitors representing organisations from across the cannabis industry. Most of the exhibitors were there to promote and sell South African Medicinal Cannabis products developed in South Africa as well as international brands. There was a large pool of recreational growers and recreational uses attending the expo. Many of these were looking to purchase personal grow equipment, nutrients and various CBD oils products.
Our participation at the CannaTech Cape Town and the Sandton Cannabis Expo events was a wonderful opportunity to showcase what PharmOut has established over the last 14 years as a design, engineering and compliance company. The exciting opportunity provided by the two events allowed us to contribute to the establishment of a sustainable South African Medicinal Cannabis Industry and be leaders in Africa.

The Whova app, which was used by both events proved to be a great tool to keep track of different speakers and panel discussions as well as setting up meetings and discussions among attendees. The speakers were all fantastic with some very insightful topics. The intimacy of the CannaTech event gave attendees a chance to interact with the speaker and share knowledge and experiences in this rapidly growing industry.
