Medicinal Cannabis 2 years on – Industry Update Dinner

PharmOut Innovation Dinner – Melbourne Zoo – 15th November 2016

Medicinal Cannabis

Providing innovative, courageous legislative and regulatory frameworks to give patients early access to Medicinal Cannabis is a challenge. The balance between access and safe, effective therapies is on the forefront of the regulators minds, and of course to control leakage out of the supply chain. We have fantastic speakers lined up for our Innovation Dinner who will provide their insights on the topics of medicinal cannabis and innovation within our industry. The immediate beneficiaries of the legalisation of medicinal cannabis will be children with epilepsy. In recognition of this we are supporting the Epilepsy Foundation with 44% of the ticket price. We hope that you will support us with this great cause.

Waters Corporation will be kicking off the early evening with a practical talk and demonstration of their Supercritical Fluid Extraction (SFE) System. Waters are international leaders in this technology. And no-it would be illegal to perform this extraction on cannabis at the zoo during the evening!

After a short break, Australia’s leading legal expert and passionate advocate of the legalisation cannabis for medicinal purposes, Dr Teresa Nicoletti from Piper Alderman will speak. Teresa has helped a number of clients navigate through this tricky and evolving, legal framework.

Innovation

The second half of the Innovation Dinner will be focused on innovation. It was a real pleasure to have Mr. Frank McGuire, Mr. Frank Maguirewho is the Parliamentary Secretary for Medical Research present at the National GMP & Validation Forum last July, supporting the Medical & Pharmaceutical Technologies sector. Mr McGuire really struck a chord with us when he said that he “wanted to be remembered for the rise of CSL and not the demise of Ford”. That was a powerful message and it is great to see our elected representatives focused on innovation.

To continue the evening, Simon Corah from Growth Mantra and Cathie Reid from Epic Pharmacy will speak on the topic of innovation.

Simon is a professional speaker on innovation and will speak on the topics of health and Industry 4.0. In case you don’t know what Industry 4.0 is your better come along. It’s all about “smart factories” and the Internet of Things (IoT). There was an interesting Ted Talk on the fourth manufacturing revolution by Olivier Scalabre a few days ago-well worth a look.

Cathie is the Co-Founder of Australia’s Epic Group, which includes Epic Pharmacy, Epic Digital and the Epic Good Foundation. Epic Pharmacy is one of Australia’s largest pharmacy service providers to the hospital, oncology and aged care sector, participating in the healthcare of more than 100,000 Australians each year. Epic Pharmacy has been named in the Australian Financial Review Top 50 Most Innovative Companies for their development of digital health tools – Medication Manager and ChartFlow. Cathie will share her experience on creating a culture of innovation.
